Holly Hunter, an American actor and producer, is well-known for her stellar performance in films such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. The film Piano won her an Oscar. Her career began as an actor on Broadway as well as Off Broadway. Enthusiastic about acting from her school days she played Helen Keller in a play during the 5th grade. She became deaf in one ear due to mumps but did not permit this to deter her desire to be an actor. While in college, she studied drama, she moved to New York City with her plans to achieve them. Hunter was stuck in an elevator with the playwright Beth Henley when she met her. They collaborated to create Broadway Crimes of the Heart in which Hunter made her Broadway debut. As she relocated into Los Angeles, Hunter tried to get films to play. The role of a supporting actress was secured for Swing Shift. Her professional career spans over 30 years and she's appeared in numerous TV shows or series, as well as films. Holly Hunter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has also won the Women in Film Lucy Award.
